The spring-like temperatures are a sure sign that spring has been here for a week or so, although today is the first official day of spring. Spring begins with the vernal equinox this morning March 20 at 10:57am according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Yet another sure sign that spring is here is the arrival of the Great Rockies Sport Show at the Adams Center this weekend March 22-23.

“I invite folks to come and experience the great outdoors at our show this year”, said the Great Rockies Show promoter Bill Reier. It is the second year in a row that he has brought his show to Missoula and this year he has added a couple of new features.

“Predators of the Heart has been captivating and educating audiences since 1998 and is the state of Washington’s largest traveling wildlife exhibit and reptile show”, added Reier, “bring the kids and the entire family for this wonderful educational animal and reptile show; we will have multiple shows each day”. Another new feature for the kids that will compliment the kid’s trout pond is the Yankee Joe’s Gemstone & Fossil Mining. If you kids love collecting rocks, fossils, and arrowheads then this feature which is new for 2014 will enable the kids mine gemstones and fossils.

“The Big Buck contest is popular everywhere we go as it gives hunters a chance to have their horns scored free plus they might even win a gift certificate”, said Reier.

The show will also feature booths where you can book a fishing or hunting trip to Canada, Alaska, or even an African Safari. There will also be exhibitors that will be featuring the latest gear and equipment to help you enjoy the outdoors even more. “We will be there to showcase the Decked truck bed storage system”, said Chad Ward of Bob Wards. This Decked system lets you store and access your work or play stuff easily without compromising your truck bed for hauling other work or play stuff like an ATV on top.
I will be there with my Montana Outdoor Radio Show (MORS) booth giving out the free 2014 Montana hunting date cards when you stop by and say hello. I will also be featuring Montana’s only guaranteed fishing lures. It’s my 2014 edition of the MORS Guaranteed Lure. This year we are featuring a couple of lures from the Storm Lure Company. One lure is chartreuse with a tint of orange the other lure has a blue back silver sides and red lip. Both lures are designed to catch trout, walleye, and northern pike and both come with my famous guarantee that they will catch fish or you get your money back. And when you buy both we throw in a $10,000 Kits Tackle glass minnow jig. It is the same jig that they won the $10,000 first place prize at the 2012 Canyon Ferry Walleye Festival.

There will also be a good selection of fishing boats to look over and door prizes to register to win as well as fishing, hunting and trapping seminars. The hours of the show are 10am-6pm on Saturday and 10-4pm on Sunday. Admission is $6 and kids are free age 12 and under plus you can save a $1 on the admission price by clipping out the coupon in the Missoulian or on line at montanaoutdoor.com.
