gobbIt’s hard to believe that it took me more than 19 years of off and on turkey hunting to finally bag a gobbler. And in the end, everything went so smoothly that it seems incredible that it took so long. The toms were gobbling on the roost just up the hill when we drove into camp on Friday night. Less than an hour into the season opener on Saturday morning, my friend Uriah Price had called a group of about seven toms and jakes in, the closest about 5 yards from him. There’s nothing quite like the sound of those toms gobbling like crazy, falling all over each other to come to what they think is an amorous hen. Once home, the gobbler went in the smoker for my first wild turkey dinner. To read more about the hunt, see my story on The Billings Gazette website. http://bit.ly/1kE5WJv.
