It was another fun fishing day on Holter Reservoir. The weather cooperated nicely, for most of the day, with only a gust of wind every now and then.

On Thursday, the Captain met Erick Anderson from Helena and the owner of Placer Motors at 9:30 on the lower BLM campground boat ramp. At the same time they were about to head out fishing, so was the trio from Missoula: Salmon Steve Hellegaard, Gregg “Cutthroat” Cooney and Brian Jones from Missoula. It was at that time that the two separate fishing parties made a friendly wager on the who would catch the biggest fish.

Both boats caught a lot of fish, and by the time they headed for the boat ramp, at 5pm, it was clear that Cooney had caught the largest trout, measuring 21 inches in length. Mainly, they fished from across the lower boat ramp, up river to split rock and across from Log Gulch campground. Depth ranged from 10-20 feet. Firetiger Syclops, gold and white j-7 rapala did most of the catching. Even though most of the lures that they used caught at least one fish.
