Hunting:

It might be time to think about purchasing a Super Tag from us. This is a Lottery program put on by Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. You can purchase one for Deer, Elk, Moose, Sheep, Goat, or Bison, antelope and mountain lion. You have until July 3rd to buy a chance to win a hunt of a lifetime.

Spring Black Bear season’s final closing date is June15th.

GAME-DAMAGE HUNTS

Registration opens June 15 for those wanting to participate in game-damage hunts including those on private land, possible management seasons, or potential brucellosis transmission reduction between elk and livestock. There may be additional opportunities for antlerless deer B licenses awarded via the hunt roster.

Register online June 15 – July 15 at fwp.mt.gov.

Bozeman Fishing

The Rivers are pretty muddy, high, and fast moving. If you venture out play it safe. Streamers and some nymphing is getting a little action but not much.

The Upper Madison, Lower Madison, Gallatin, and Yellowstone Rivers all are blown out or untested. You should look to other waters for the time being.

Hyalite seems to be the ticket. Feedback is that anglers are doing a sort of reverse dropper technique using the smaller nymphs like copper johns prince nymphs with stone flies and rubber legs as the dropper.

Butte Fishing

Fishing is increasingly becoming better as water levels begin to come down. The anglers are patiently waiting to see what we will have for a June Salmonfly hatch on the Big Hole. The anglers have been catching a few on the Upper Big Hole with Rapalas or #6 and #9 Panther Martins. Large Yellow and Olive or Yellow/Black Streamers have been successful choices for fly anglers.

Mountain lakes have been seeing a few anglers around the area. Nightcrawlers are always a good choice. For many fly anglers, fly bugs or damselfly nymphs fished on a sink tip have been a successful choice.

The Ruby Reservoir has been good bank fishing for bait fisherman this past week. Nightcrawlers with orange garlic marshmallows have provided good catches of trout.

Fisherman at Clark Canyon are saying to fish lead line rigs and go deep, 40-50ft. Shad Rap Rapalas or deep divers in gold/brown colors are hooking up with the trout. The Beaverhead had been spotty this past week with increased pressure.
