Don’t forget if you did not draw your dream tag you still have a chance by buying a $5 supertag at Bob Ward’s. On sale until July 3rd. Spring Black Bear season closes on May 31-June15th depending on the area. Make sure you know what the closing date is for your favored stomping grounds.

Bozeman Fishing: The Rivers are pretty muddy, high, and fast moving. If you venture out play it safe. Streamers and some nymphing is getting a little action but not much. No report or bad conditions on the Upper and Lower Madison, Gallatin, and Yellowstone. Hyalite-seems to be the ticket. Feedback is that anglers are doing a sort of reverse dropper technique. Using the smaller nymphs like copper johns prince nymphs with stone flies and rubber legs as the dropper.

Butte Fishing: Higher water levels have kept anglers off the rivers in Southwest Montana around the Butte area. The Ruby River and Beaverhead River are an exception due to dam regulated flows. The mountain lakes are seeing some angling activity and fisherman are reaping the rewards of creel limits. Fly anglers are seeing some surface activity when temperatures reach 70 degrees or higher. Pale Morning Duns or Blue Wing Olives have been a good choice. Subsurface activity has been very good for bait fisherman using nightcrawlers or leeches. Fly anglers are seeing some success on Prince Nymph Flashbacks and damselfly nymphs. The Beaverhead has been good fishing for all anglers. Nightcrawlers are a good choice. Rapalas, Mepps, Panther Martins, and Thomas Cyclones are great spinner baits. San Buga, Pole Morning Duns, and Blue Wing Olives are a good surface bugs. Beadheads, stone fly nymphs, and Hellgramites are a good subsurface choice.
