State officials closed the Clark Fork River between the Orange and Russell Street bridges today at the request of Missoula city police while the  search for a vehicle and its driver that went into the river late Tuesday afternoon continues.

Emergency crews are searching for the vehicle using cranes, boats, and other equipment, creating public safety concerns for anyone  traveling this stretch of river.

Missoula Parks & Recreation also placed a temporary closure at its McCormick Park access site near the search location.  The river and access site  will reopen as soon as the search and rescue efforts conclude.
