Hunting:

With upland opening September 1st and archery September 6th the time is now to get in and gear up for the upcoming seasons. Get updates on every season opening date buy joining Bob Ward’s email community in store.

Bozeman Fishing:

Get on the Gallatin first thing in the morning and hit them with yellow sally and green bodied elk hair caddis flies in size 12, 14, and 16.

Lower Madison isn’t producing well due to the high human activity on the river. If you are in that area Beartrap is the place to go and stick with any variety of caddis fly.

The Upper Madison is just like the Gallatin, first thing in the morning use yellow sally, cripple PMDs, and PMDs. Use any variety of caddis flies throughout the day.

On the Yellowstone any kind of stone nymph is still working well right off the bottom. Caddis flies in any color are working great. PMDs and Yellow Sallys are working great early and late close to the bank

Heading to the park? Grab Yellowstone fishing permits 3 day, 7 day, and season at Bob Ward’s.

If you are a spin angler the fish are hopping just about everywhere. The Colorado Spinner in copper/silver or copper/brass is the recommended lure.

Butte Fishing:

Fishing continues to be steady on the Big Hole River and tributaries this week. Orange Stimulators or Orange Bucktail Caddis have been a good fly for the Wise River and smaller streams. Black Humpies, Royal Coachman and Elk Hair Caddis are also good choices.

Rock creek has been fishing well to Bucktail Caddis and many anglers are still finding smaller Salmonfly Hatches going in.

Georgetown Lake is fishing fair to Damselfly imitations and wooly buggers or leech imitations. Bait always works well at Georgetown either live or imitation bait.

The Beaverhead River has seen some Golden Stonefly action recently with caddis hatches in the early morning and late afternoon. Brown Bear Black Nymphs are always a good choice.

Barred Leg Golden Stones are a good choice for the Jefferson River below Cardwell.
