kwoodWest Yellowstone, Montana, — The 7th annual Kirkwood Trout Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, August 16. All are invited to enjoy a fun-filled day on Hebgen Lake, which features voting for “People’s Choice” after sampling signature trout dishes prepared by past winners of the event as well as chefs from restaurants around the Yellowstone region. Other activities for the day include the annual Hebgen Cup Sailboat Regatta, a Boathouse Zumba class, streamer fishing demonstration rides, fly-casting lessons, beer & whiskey tasting, and live music by Ryan Montana Matzinger and the Ten O’Clock Scholars.

Cash contributions are requested to enjoy tasting; proceeds beyond expenses for the event are added to the ongoing conservation fund for the Hebgen Lake area. The proceeds from donations from the first 5 years of the event were used to partner with the Hebgen Ranger District to do noxious weed spraying in Ghost Village.

Registration for the Hebgen Cup Regatta begins at 11 am; spectators can watch the sailors get their boats ready for the big race, which starts at 1 pm. Zumba in the Boathouse and Streamer Fishing Demonstration Rides, also known as “Pulling the Feather”, fill the afternoon. Music and tastings begin at 5:15, with the chefs and teams presenting their dishes in the Boathouse at 6 pm. The Rav’n Sistas will be returning along with chefs from The Branch Restaurant in West Yellowstone, The Gallatin River House in Big Sky, The Club Tavern & Grill in Bozeman, Diablas Kitchen in Idaho Falls, Blacksmith Italian in Bozeman, and The Gravel Bar in Ennis. Beer tasting by Bozeman Brewing and spirits by Willie’s Distillery. Awards at 7:30 pm, followed by more of great music to end the day at the lake.
