Hunting:

Hunting seasons are starting already! The next big opening date is for Archery September 6. Get in and gear up. You can find advice, news, and sales info in Bob Ward’s weekly email newsletter. Subscribe free at facebook.com/bobwards.

Bozeman Fishing:

River fishing has been sporadic with the warm water temperatures. The best flies to use right now are hoppers, pretty much any variety. A hopper dropper combo is working best. Have your hopper on the surface and a foot to 24 inches behind it had a bead head nymph like a copper john or hares ear.

If you are heading to the park don’t forget we sell Yellowstone fishing permits 3 day, 7 day, and season.

Butte Fishing:

Great fishing on Clark Canyon this past week on the southern end. Sinking line fly rigs with yellow Sally dropper.

Nightcrawlers and Powerbait Nuggets fished in the river channel at about 12 feet were bringing home the big rainbows.

Georgetown Lake was fly fishing paradise near the pump house this week with bead head copper johns on a sink tip line. Size 14 or 16 seem to be preferred.

Low water has provided great angling on the Big Hole River. Both the upper and lower Big Hole are fishing well. Larger Rapalas and Panther Martin spinners are bringing in the brown trout. Parachute Purple Haze, Adams Irresistibles, and Dave’s or Joe’s hoppers are receiving most of the action.

Recent rains have sustained the water levels on the Wise River and Upper Big Hole tributaries. Small Trico hatches are showing up on the North Fork later in the evening and the Brookies are biting. Size 16,18Tricos and size 16 and 18 Hemmingway caddis are catching creel limits.

Hemmingway caddis, Griffth snots, and Grasshopper patterns have been great on the Beaverhead this past week.
