Hunting:

  • Grouse and Huns season opens Monday, September 1st.
  • Archery opens September 6th.

Stop by Bob Ward’s hunting sale this weekend to save on everything from camo to ammo. The new “Bob Ward’s: How We Gear Up” article is on page 25 of this months Big Sky Hunting & Fishing News. Check out the gear the pros at Bob Ward’s recommend for every season.

Helena Fishing:

Canyon Ferry Lake: Trout fishing has been pretty solid up north by the dam and Cemetery Island. Try trolling cowbells or a flashy spoon tipped with a worm. The Walleye are still productive as well. The south is still producing plenty of Walleye but if you’re in deeper water try targeting the Walleye around 20’ deep with a crawling harness with worm or Rapalas.

Causeway: we’ve had a few reports of Walleye being caught from shore. Try snap-jigging with a night-crawler near the Causeway Bridge.

Missouri River: The big “Mo” is fishing well through mid-July. Trico’s have been a go to in the mornings. Hoppers are out in force and you can also have some luck with beetles or ants. We’d also recommend throwing some Caddis in the early evening through late afternoon.
