Hunting:

  • Archery Black Bear, Pronghorn Antelope, Deer, and Elk opens this weekend!
  • Turkey and Grouse is open and we have all the gear you need, top to bottom.

Bozeman Fishing:

Lower Madison-the fish are in the slower and deeper waters use nymphs like copper johns/bobs, pupa patterns, and crayfish.

Upper Madison-up near the dam use all black woolly bugger. On the river use hopper patterns unless the night temps drop too low. You can always fall back on the caddis and PMD hatch

Gallatin-purple haze pattern in the canyon is working wonders

Yellowstone- any nymph is working well along with hoppers

Mountain Lakes and Creeks- the water temps are cooling off and the fish are actively feeding on the surface. Focus on dry flies and concentrate on white winged patterns.

Butte Fishing:

Great fishing on the southern end of Clark Canyon this week. Use a sinking line fly rig with yellow sally dropper. Night crawlers and powerbait fished in the river channel around 12 feet were bringing home the big ‘bows.

Georgetown lake was a flyfishing paradise this week. Throw beadhead copper johns on a sink tip line, size 14 seems to be the preferred.

Low water on the Big Hole has provide some great opportunities. Rapalas and Panther Martin spinners are hooking brook trout. Parachute purple hays, adams irrisistables, and Dave’s or Joe’s hoppers are seeing most of the action.

Some recent rains have sustained levels on the Wise River and Upper Big Hole tributaries. Small Trico hatches can be found on the North Fork later in the evening and brookies are responding.

Head to the Beaverhead with Hemmingway caddis and grasshopper patters and you’ll guarantee a good time.
