Report compiled by Carol Henckel

With fall weather approaching please be aware that it can be
unpredictable. Remember to stay hydrated as you fish. Enjoy yourself but
remember alcohol alters your judgment so use it sparingly while enjoying
the outdoors. Keep an eye on the weather as temperature, wind and
precipitation can change quickly. Be prepared for all types of weather.
This report is compiled on Monday and Tuesday and reflects conditions and
results of fishing from the past week. If you wish other information feel
free to contact most parties for current daily information.

Good luck fishing from the Montana Outdoor Radio Crew.
Rock Creek Marina-Bill 1-406-485-2560
“Fishing was good this past week.  Walleye fishing is slow. The water is
up about 3 feet. Water temperature is now 67 to 68 degrees. Fishing is hit
and miss. Northern pike and bass fishing is about the same. We need
everything to normalize.”

Matt says,” We now have September hours.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
we are now closed.  We will be open Thursday to Sunday 8 am to 6 pm.
People are catching some bass and walleye.  The walleye are moving back
into the shallows.  Crappies are still being caught.”

Clint Thomas- Hell Creek Marina 1-406- 557-2345
Hell Creek-Fort Peck Reservoir

A staff member reports,” Walleye fishing is still slow this week. The
water temp is around 70 degrees.  You can find a few big ones out deeper
at 20 plus feet out on the main lake. Just use a bottom   bouncers with a
crawler.  The northern pike and bass are still being caught.  They are
pulling cranks in 10 feet of water. The water is up 2 feet right now.”
Gene Moore Lake Ridge Motel 1-406-526-3597
Gene Moore, of Lake Ridge says,” We really had nasty weather this past
week.  We got about 7 inches in 3 days. It really murked the water up.
Guys are catching some lake trout and only a few salmon. Walleye will pick
up when the water clears I think.”

Lake Elmo Billings
The fishing was happening but so was the recreating. Fishing has been
better. They are catching rainbow trout with bait and a bobber. Cool
weather has helped the bite.
Cooney Reservoir Jenny/ Maleri
The fire restrictions have been lifted.  Malerie says,”Walleye fishing
has picked up some. They are jigging to get them.  Catching rainbow
trout is doable.  The water is down some.”

Deadmans/Martinsdale Cozy Corner Bar Lavina 406-636-2261

Staff says, “Fishing was slow this week. The fish were sleeping I would
say this week. We weren’t hearing many people went out fishing most
played.  I did hear people using a worm and marshmallows catching from
shore.”

Don’s Lewistown-Dale 1-800-879-8194

“Spring Creek is fishing well. It is clearer now. They are using panther
martins in gold and silver for rainbow and brown trout. At Achley
fishermen are trolling deep using leaded line on the face of the dam.
They are using a spin blade and wooly buggers.  The smaller waters
definitely have moss but it is less.  At Crooked Creek and Forchette use
a 1 ½ and 2 ½ inch bottom bouncer.  Go 30 feet deep and use pink and
purple right now,” Charlie says.
Crooked Creek-Grant
Be aware of the underwater tree branches that can cause damage to your
boat as you go out. Dusty says, “The Marina is open Friday, Saturday and
Sunday of every weekend. We have gas, camping, and cabin rental.  The
store has night crawlers and ice.  Our number is 1-406-429-2999.

Minnow Bucket-Eddie White  696-1281
“Bass fishing is slower.  The Yellowstone is muddy. Sauger fishing is
good. You ccan catch big catfish right now. We went out and got a 10, 10
, 10 ½  and three 5 pounders in a few hours.  Crankbait are taking cat
fish. Just be careful of water conditions.
Word on Deadmans is it is slow. One group only caught 5 salmon in
several hours of fising ,” Eddie says.

The hours of the Minnow Bucket are Tuesday to Friday 11 to 7 pm, Saturday
7 to 7 pm and Sunday 7 to noon.

Silos Canyon Ferry-Sharon

“I would say again fishing at Canyon Ferry has been decent this week.
Lots of numbers. Perch are being caught by fishermen. Walleye fishing
brings lots of numbers. They are catching 16 to 18 inch size.  A few are
big but they are catching fish all over Canyon Ferry just not in one
particular area,” Sharon says.

West Side Sports Jim Mayer 1-406-654-1611

“Fishing has definitely slowed up.  The water is up a foot.  Nelson is
spotty but go deeper. Water temperature has been 76 degrees this week.
It will change with the weather.  Cooler weather will help,” Eli reports.

Shop hours are 8 to 6 Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday. Stop in
any time
Billings-Scheels Josh

Josh says, “The old Scheels store closed the 24th of August. The soft
opening of the new Scheels is on the 6th of September. Come take a
look.  I headed to Rock Creek one day last week and it was high and
dirty.  I threw in a panther martin spinner and got nibbles.
I also went to Petrolia.  I had wind and rain and it was really very
dirty. No catches that day.”

Rich’s Tackle Richard  406-285-4540

The rivers are way up.  The only thing you could do is white water
rafting.  It rained again. Water is high.

Shop hours are Sunday 12 to 4 pm.  Closed Monday.  Tuesday to Saturday
7am to 6 pm.  You can always call ahead if you are coming through and need
something on off hours and we may be able to help.

Stillwater Anglers-Chris 406-322-4977

Bill reports, “The Stillwater is clear. You can catch fish with hoppers
purple haze and Grinch steamers, olive colored.  It is doing fairly
well.  On the lower water you will need to fish close to bank and in
pockets.  You can see baetes hatch at around 4 pm and 7 pm. The
Yellowstone is chocolate milk brown muddy. It rained in the Park last
night and Livingston has rain right now.  It is not fishing well.  You
cn try anything with a worm but it is real unpredictable. I headed to
Cliff Swallow one day of the weekend and it was windy. The water was
clear but we had problems with the ducks.  The ducks liked the bait in
fact one child actually caught one. It was tricky to release it.  ”
We now are in Summer hours in the shop and are open Tuesday to Sun. from
9 am to 5 pm. We are closed Monday.

Big Horn Trout Shop Fort Smith 666-2375 Rich
Evan says, “the water is at CSF 3300. Use tricos in early mornings to
about 10:30 am. Try psuedos after noon.  The black caddis are fading fast.
People are seeing some beetles around and aboe 3 mile.  We are seeing a
few hoppers. No hatch though. The streamers are working god.  We are
seeing an increase of aquatic activity.  Use standard nymphs. Try a Quill
nymph and a Tongue easer in black and silver which is a midge pattern.
That is working good.”

Call if you need specific information.” Our shop hours  are 7 am to 5 pm.
Monday to Sunday.
