Planning on taking advantage of the last few hours of summer or the first few days of fall? Take advantage of a great opportunity to go fishing in the Helena area, but “know before you go” and check out the latest fishing reports from Adam Strainer with the MT FWP.

Canyon Ferry:  Rainbow trout are being caught mid-reservoir to the Dam using cowbells or other attractors, tipped with worms, at depths near 20 feet.  Shoreline anglers are catching rainbows using worms and/or marshmallows, especially at Magpie Bay.  Walleye fishing has slowed, but some fish are being caught throughout the south end and mid-reservoir areas using worm harnesses or crankbaits.  Vertical jigging for walleye on bay points and shelf transitions continues to produce fish.  Some yellow perch continue to be caught.  Adam Strainer, FWP, Helena
Hauser:  Rainbow fishing is very good in the Causeway, Spokane Bay and below Canyon Ferry Dam. Trolling cowbells, silver or blue crankbaits or dark colored wooly buggers has produced the best action.  Shore anglers are catching rainbows at the Causeway Bridge and Riverside on Powerbait or jigs with a worm.  A few walleye are being caught at the Causeway Bridge and below Canyon Ferry Dam on jigs tipped with a worm. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Holter:  Rainbow fishing is good from the Oxbow Bend area to Holter Dam while trolling cowbells or perch colored crankbaits.  A few rainbows are being caught from shore while using worms or marshmallows.  Perch are being caught in 15 to 25 feet of water around the Oxbow and Split Rock.;   A few walleye are mixed in with the schools of perch.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
