DIY Beeswax Lip Balm

Let’s face it…Montana winters can be harsh at times, and summers here are typically dry.  Don’t spend money on store-bought lip moisturizing balm when you can make it at home yourself!  You can even mix up the ingredients to add flavors, colors and whatever else you want.  Some people use Kool-Aid powder, I hear, too.  Here’s a recipe from realworldsurvivor.com:

Ingredients for Beeswax Lip Balm:

• 4 teaspoons of beeswax

• 3 teaspoons of sweet almond oil

• 2 teaspoons of shea butter

• 5 to 10 drops of essential oil (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Add the beeswax, sweet almond oil and shea butter into a small glass measuring cup. Add about an inch of water to a saucepan, and put it on a low heat. Place the glass measuring cup in the water, and allow the contents to melt. Do not overheat. As soon as everything has melted, remove the cup from the pan, and add any optional essential oils. Pour the mixture into your desired containers. You can use a twist-up container, slider tins, round tins or small plastic containers with twist lids. I use 0.25-ounce slider tins and fill six to eight of them with this recipe, depending on how much I fill them. Carefully transfer the filled containers to the refrigerator for 20 minutes or so until the balm hardens.
