Hunting:

Gopher season is exploding right now with the grass still short enough to see them but long enough to get them out of their holes. Don’t forget to come in and get some .22 shells before you go out.

Spring turkey and bear seasons will be going this weekend and the weather looks like it will be a nice cool weekend for getting out. With the bears coming out they’re going to be hungry, make sure you have some pepper spray for back up.

Fishing:

Canyon Ferry Lake: Rainbow trout are being caught by boat anglers near the Dam, around Cemetery Island and mid reservoir trolling attractors/flashers, tipped with worms.  The walleye fishing has been pretty good throughout the reservoir, but with this recent change in weather, all bets are off.  Worms & leeches in 20 to 25 feet of water trolling with worm harness may prove productive. Try jigging in 5 to 45 feet of water, from mid reservoir to the Dam. For walleye, try a little deeper this time of year, but don’t overlook the shallow south end as it continues to produce fish.

Missouri River: The flow is around 3,880 cfs, not bad for this time of the year, water temp in the low 40’s. It’s April and it’s been warm! Needless to say the fishing has been best on cloudy days. Midges are still very prevalent but its all very small flys right now. Try a size 18 “Griffith’s Knat” and clip it flush to imitate a midge cluster.
