Andrew Washburn 17, from Rochester, NY wanted to catch a northern pike but never had the opportunity. With the early morning sun cracking over a lake with good numbers of pike we launched a 12′ aluminum row boat and set off to do just that.
After a slow start Andrew thought he had another glob of weeds on the end of his line until it made a mad dash under the boat!
Experiences like catching your first of any species are important and necessary to keep our youth involved in our traditions.
Take a young person fishing, passing on our heritage is our responsibility and you know what? It’s fun! (Especially when the youngster you’re fishing with is your nephew).
Don’t let the kid you know be the one that got away.
