Sad news Thursday morning as an eastbound train near Helena plowed through a heard of elk killing 23 of them Wednesday night according to the Missoulian.  The collisions happened close to the intersection of HWY 12 and Spokane Creek Road.  FWP responded early Thursday morning to flag and tag the animals and to move the carcasses out of the site of the public.  The elk are said to be un salvageable as the train was traveling approximately 60 mph, leaving not much left of the elk that were impacted.
