U.S. SENATE — U.S. Senator Steve Daines will be in Whitefish this Saturday July 16, to speak at the celebration of the completion of the Haskill Basin Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Project and honor renowned Montana conservationist, Alex Diekmann by announcing legislation to name an unnamed peak in his memory.

Daines will be joined by elected officials, conservationists, sportsmen and local business owners.

The Haskill Basin Project facilitated a conservation easement of 3,022 acres of land owned by F.H. Stoltze Land and Lumber Co. to ensure the land can continue to supply logs to Montana’s oldest family-owned lumber company, protect sources of water supply for the City of Whitefish, ensure public access for outdoor recreation, and protect habitat for Montana’s iconic wildlife.

This week, the Montana Congressional Delegation introduced legislation to honor Alex Diekmann by naming an unnamed 9,765-foot peak in the Madison Valley in his memory. Daines first met Diekmann in 2013 when he first learned about the Haskill Basin project.
