(Bozeman)—Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is alerting the public that the angling restriction on the Lower Big Hole River is being lifted; effective Friday October 7th due to improved stream flows.

The restriction being lifted Friday will open the following section of the Big Hole River to all-day fishing:

  • The Big Hole from Notch Bottom Fishing Access Site to the Confluence with the Beaverhead River

Regional Fisheries Manager Travis Horton says the recent weather pattern have resulted in stream flows reaching drought plan reopening criteria. This section of the Big Hole River was the last remaining fishing restriction due to drought conditions in Southwest Montana.

“Recent weather patterns have brought much needed precipitation, and drought plan reopening criteria have been met.”
