Hunting:

General season opener for Deer and Elk is here and open. Antelope, Pheasant, Grouse, Fall Turkey, and Partridge season are open, as well.  Duck and Goose are also open in both flyways and all zones and zone 2 of the Central will reopen this Saturday—and with these cold weeks we should start seeing birds in the sky soon.  With rifle season underway, swing on into Bob Wards for all your hunting needs. We’ve got some great sales this weekend so come on in!

Fishing:

Canyon Ferry: The trout bite is still decent and if you want to avoid some traffic (by way of waterfowl hunters) head up to the north end and chase some trout.  If you’re fishing from shore you try snap jigging some night crawlers or try casting out some good old fashion marshmallows.  For walleye right now the game is about depth…with colder water temps walleye are going to be a bit deeper than they were a couple of months ago.  Definitely try and use heavier spinners or heavy jigs and try and stick to Perch or Firetiger patterns right now.

Helena Valley Reservoir: It’s snagging season at the reservoir. Swing on in and pick up some treble hooks and weights and get ready to hook-up some salmon.

Missouri River: The Mo is fishing great especially on the nymphing side of things.  Its dropper time on the Mo try fishing with a San Juan worm up top with a smaller Bead-head Pheasant-tail or Copper John.  If you want to catch a few hogs fish above Craig for some larger trout but the canyon below is fishing great as well.  BWOs should be popping off soon so if you want to get in on some great fall dry flies make sure to get out on the water.
