Some of us hunt for antlers and the largest buck or bull. Some of us hunt for meat, and the satisfaction of stocking the freezer. A few of us enjoy just getting out, and filling a tag will only mean more work. And for most hunters, hanging out with old or new friends, camping and swapping tales is a big part of the season. Whatever the reason, the general rifle season for deer and elk opens Saturday prompting all kinds of average Joes and Janes to dig out their camouflage and blaze orange in celebrations of the hunt. For me, I’ve got more hunts behind me than in front, which is a sobering thought.
