A tarp covered with dirt next to a grassy lawn will attract night crawlers by the dozens.  The tarp retains heat and moisture even when top soils are freezing.  Recently on November 7 in Montana a tarp covered with waxed dirt was rolled over to transfer the dirt into buckets and Kaden Walrath picked up six dozen worms for what he calls his “worm farm”.

The worms will be stored in a cork box with worm bedding for ice fishing later this winter.
