A snowmobiler was fully buried today in the 2nd Yellowmule off Buck Ridge south of Big Sky. The avalanche occurred on a north facing slope that was heavily wind loaded. The slide likely failed on facets above an ice crust about a foot off the ground. The rider was buried 2-3 feet deep and was found by his partners with a beacon search. This is a prime example that carrying the proper rescue gear and being skilled in companion rescue saves lives. With more snow and wind in the forecast, dangerous avalanche conditions will continue.
