Flathead Lake State Park Paddle Fest -May 20th & 21st

(Bigfork, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) will host the Flathead Lake State Park Paddle Fest at Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park.  The event will take place on Saturday, May 20 from 10am to 3pm and Sunday, May 21 from 10am to 2pm. This free event is partnership between Rocky Mountain Outfitter, Sportsman’s Ski Haus, The Flathead Paddlers, and Montana State Parks.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the variety of kayaks and paddleboards on the market today. Demo kayaks and paddleboards will be available to try out with experts on hand to give instructions and guidance. There will also be information about basic boat safety. Refreshments will be provided by The Flathead Paddlers.

Other event highlights include:

Deep Water Kayak Re-entry Techniques – 12pm Saturday and Sunday
The Flathead Paddlers will provide demonstrations as well as individual step-by-step instructions and assistance on re-entry into your kayak in deep water.

10 Tricks to Paddle Faster – 2pm Saturday
Anne Clark, FVCC instructor, will demonstrate proper techniques to more efficient and effective paddler.

Boat Exchange Rodeo – 1:30pm Sunday
Grab any boat and a partner to participate in this fun race! The top two finishing teams will win prizes.

All participants in demos, activities, and games are recommended to wear old shoes or water shoes and bring a dry change of clothes. If you have your own personal flotation device (PFD), please bring it, otherwise there will be loaner PFDs on hand.

Flathead Lake State Park consists of six unique park units located around Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The park units on the east side are Wayfarers, Yellow Bay and Finley Point and the west side units are West Shore, Big Arm and Wild Horse Island. In addition to boating, swimming and fishing, each park unit offers unique experiences including camping, rental picnic shelters, group camping, hiking, sightseeing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing opportunities.
