The spring 2017 steelhead season on the upper Salmon River closed at the end of Sunday, April 30th. Due to the low amount of angler effort observed this week downstream of the East Fork, angler interviews were only obtained from upstream of the East Fork in location code 19. In this area, the majority of anglers were observed fishing upstream of Stanley near the Buckhorn Bridge area. Interviewed anglers within location code 19 averaged 13 hours per steelhead caught and 38 hours per steelhead kept.

As of Thursday, April 27th the Sawtooth Hatchery has trapped 1,883 adult hatchery steelhead and the Pahsimeroi Hatchery has trapped 3,356 adult hatchery steelhead.
