Dan Smith from Kalispell went whitefish fishing with 84 year-old Ralph Johnson, and Johnson caught the largest whitefish he has ever caught in his 84 years–and he has caught a lot of them! The fish weighed right at 6 pounds. They did very well Thursday fishing at the Narrows on Flathead Lake. Current Montana state record is 10.46 pounds 27 inches caught by Swan McDonald on August 26th 2006 by Bird Island not far where the 6 pounder was caught
