A nice write-up was posted Tuesday on Hatch Magazine recounting writer Todd Tanner’s experiences as an angler which now include witnessing his son’s growth as a fly fisherman.

Although the story takes place in a section of Montana’s Missouri River crowded with other fisherman, Tanner’s son finds success while wandering off the beaten path. He catches a beautiful 20 inch rainbow, not by sticking to the same gameplan as the older fisherman but experimenting with a different approach.

The story is a nice reflection for experienced anglers and a solid lesson for beginners. Check it out here.
