Iconic firearms manufacturer Weatherby Inc. announced plans Wednesday to move the company’s headquarters from California to Sheridan, Wyo.

The company announced the move at SHOT Show, an annual firearms and outdoor industry convention in Las Vegas.

The move will create 50 to 90 jobs and $5 million in annual payroll over the next five years, according to a release issued by the company.

“Wyoming wooed the renowned gunmaker with its expansive access to unrivaled big game hunting, low taxes, industry-friendly environment, Sheridan College’s workforce training program and a comprehensive incentives package,” the release said.

Weatherby has been manufacturing firearms for more than 70 years. The company’s rifles are notable for their high velocity Weatherby magnum chamberings.
