There’s no school on Friday, but it’s not a time to sit at home when adventure awaits you! On Friday, February 23 bring your children up to Elkhorn Hot Springs for a snowshoeing adventure on the Forest, starting at 10 a.m.  Participants will meet at the upper parking lot (by the pool). People looking to carpool, or send their children with other parents should meet at the Forest Service Office at 9 a.m. by the flag pole.

The event will consist of a snowshoe hike, both on and off trail with different age-group levels.  Older children may be on the trail for approximately one hour.  Participants will learn about snow science and safety, winter survival, and how to have fun in the snow.  All participants should bring a pack with water, a lunch and extra layers. Snow shoes will be available (mostly kid sizes), or you can bring your own. Parents and family are welcome to participate, however, adult size snowshoes are limited. Sleds are also welcome.

The Elkhorn cross-country ski trails are free to the public and open to both snow shoes and cross-country skiing. Treat your family to a fun day of learning, snowshoeing, and soaking.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Beaverhead Trails Coalition, Pioneer Mountain Education Foundation, and Elkhorn Hot Springs have joined together to host this fun family event.   All are welcome.  For more information about the event call the Forest Service at (406) 683-3900.
