Federal Spending Bill Leaves Out Proposed Protections for Montana Lands

The 2018 federal spending omnibus signed by President Donald Trump last week left out two measures intended to protect land in Montana.

Montana Untamed reported protections for areas around Yellowstone National Park and East Rosebud were possible attachments to the omnibus but didn’t make the final cut.

The Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act would have protected 30,000 acres North of YNP from mineral exploration.

Every member of Montana’s congressional delegation favored moving East Rosebud Creek onto the list of National Wild and Scenic River Systems. That measure didn’t make it into legislation either, according to Montana Untamed.
