Montana Troutfitters out of Bozeman has the latest fishing report for the Lower Madison River as of April 23, 2018:

With more warm weather coming the flow has been steadily increasing to over 2,000 cfs. This is when you can only wade out into the river in a few spots, do your wade fishing from the bank to be safe. The river has some color coming out of Ennis Lake but the fishing is good. Some anglers even began fishing Chubby dry/dropper rigs this weekend with success. If you are still fishing fully under the surface, the crawfish with soft hackles also took some good fish this weekend. Some of the best strikes were at the end of drifts. as the bugs start to swing upward. You can do a long float in a day at flows over 2,000 cfs if you are bringing a boat.
