Hebgen Lake Fishing Report by Kirkwood Marina & Resort 5.20.18

The ice is off Hebgen Lake and trout fishing is terrific.  The water level is still low with the reservoir about 85% full and rising daily; run-off creeks into the lake just started flowing. Most anglers reported 17-20 inch trout.  Boats staying out 4-6 hours were catching (and releasing) between 25-50/day.

Fish are biting all around the lake, but you can find a lot of hungry trout in the coves.  Dark colors are working on Hebgen Lake right now—spinning or fly fishing. Rainbows seem to like the black and brown trout are hitting on green. Casting with worms or streamers in black or olive has been good, as well as fishing with worms  Many of the fly fishermen we talked to this past weekend were catching on leech pattern; also heard chiro midges were very productive.
