Steelhead angler effort over the past week on the upper Salmon River was limited to the stretch of river just downstream of the Sawtooth Hatchery. Due to high flows and low visibility, river conditions downstream of this area were poor, and no interviews were obtained from other location codes. Anglers interviewed in location code 19, near Stanley, ID, averaged 11 hours per steelhead caught and 21 hours per steelhead kept.

As of Sunday, April 29th the Sawtooth Hatchery had trapped 1,611 hatchery steelhead, and as of Thursday, April 26th the Pahsimeroi Hatchery had trapped 3,425 hatchery steelhead. Additionally, 100 steelhead were planted into Kid’s Creek Pond in Salmon, ID and Blue Mountain Pond in Challis, ID on Tuesday, April 24th.

This is the last upper Salmon River steelhead report for the spring 2018 fishery.
