Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has reopened a portion of the Kootenai River near Libby, effective July 23.

FWP lifted an emergency closure on the section of river from Osprey Landing boat ramp to the Montana Highway 37 bridge city boat ramp in Libby.

FWP originally adopted the closure on July 20, prohibiting all public occupation and recreation so helicopter crews could safely operate and maneuver the bucketing of water from the river to suppress a nearby wildfire burning approximately 3.5 miles up Montana Highway 37.

The closure was adopted in coordination with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Kootenai National Forest.
