Bitterroot River

Fishing Report + Rating

3/5

July 31, 2018

The Upper Bitterroot is staying cool in the hot weather, meaning some of the better fishing is up above Hamilton.  We are throwing a lot of attractor dry flies like Stimulators, Royal Wulff’s, Trude’s, Patriot Wulff’s, Chubby’s and Water Walkers.  If they aren’t coming up to the dry, throwing a dropper off the back of your bigger dry is the way to go.  Brillon’s Mellow Yellow, Hot Spot Jig Nymphs, Jig PT’s, Princes, Double Barrel Soft Hackles, Rubberlegs and San Juans.  There are a few Spruce Moth’s here and there so having a few Stephan Moth’s, Widow Makers, Bloom’s Parachutes in your box will get those Spruce Moth crushers.  There are a few log jams being exposed with the water dropping hard.  Be careful out there.
