Flows on the Lower Madison are at 1,490 cfs which is a slight bump and water temps are down to 57 degrees. Weather will be cool again today but highs back in the 70’s and Friday and Saturday.  Beetles, ants, and attractor dries will still be important on the warmer days and BWO’s will be active early on in the day especially when it is overcast. BWO’s have been more and more active. If the fish aren’t willing to rise, light nymph rigs including crawdads, sculpins and baetis nymphs should work fine fished at about 4 feet from the indicator. Last night’s rain will have moved a few worms into the water so a San Juan should be very effective. We are probably still a ways away from the whitefish and brown trout spawn but a handful of fish will start feeling spunky pretty soon. Overall the lower has been picking up and expect it to only get better from here with this upcoming cooler weather.
