BE THE BEST PARENT!!!

No one chooses to be a Bad Parent. Often, parents are just unsure how to be their Best! Outdoor Sports Parents become Best Parents when they do these things.

1.)    Never criticize, always encourage. A fish is lost, or a shot is missed. These moments are more important than if the child is successful. Kids learn from mistakes if a Best Parent is there to teach them. Mistakes are teaching moments. No kid chooses to be a failure.

2.)    Be passionate. Find something you care about and do your best. Outdoor sports such as hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and trekking are so exciting. They are guided with rules, limits, and regulations. Safety is critical, and success is measured and recorded for a lifetime. Nothing is more exciting than fishing, hunting, skiing, or celebrating the outdoors.

3.)    Follow the Golden Rule. Treat others as you want to be treated. Scouting is a good guide here. The 12 Scout Laws lay out a wonderful framework.

Scouting 12 Scout Laws list the considerations for the Golden Rule.

Keep in mind that kids want attention. If they don’t get it, any attention becomes good attention. Being bad or unruly serves their purpose. Being a Best Parent means teaching children the difference between good and bad attention by giving plenty of positive examples.

Everything else will take care of itself.
