Ice fishing season is almost here! It won’t be long before the hard water fishermen hit the ice. Yea, I know that it is still hunting season but…

Start getting organized   Get your gear into the same spot in the garage or shed. Find your tackle box and get your jigs sharpened and ready to go.

Ice Auger        Make sure that your gas auger works and has fresh fuel. Sharpen the blade. Do the same to your hand or drill powered units.

Clothing         After hunting season, get your warm gear ready. Make sure to have gloves, hats, liner socks, and wicking layering clothes.

Rods and reels    Locate your rods and gear to make sure all is in order. Look for broken guides, old line, and smooth guides. A little early prep will save you from losing a big fish.

Electronics    Make sure that your fish finders are found and working properly. Charge or replace the batteries. Get your maps and GPS units ready to go.

Sled and wheeler    Make sure your seats, buckets, and transportation is good to go. Don’t forget the safety gear such as a throw rope, emergency space blanket, are on the pile.

We still have some time before the Big Chill transforms our lakes and ponds, but it is not too early to begin planning.

Besides, it will give you something to think about while you are waiting for the big buck.
