Anglers are reminded that ice conditions can be extremely variable.  Ice thickness can range from thick enough to support a vehicle to open water.  Extreme caution should be used when accessing the ice.

Canyon Ferry:  Rainbow trout are being caught from Pond 4 to the Silos area using various jigs, tipped with worms or maggots, in 10 feet of water or less. Yellow perch and a few walleye are being caught out from Hole-in-the-Wall using Hali jigs or Swedish Pimples, tipped with maggots, in 30 to 40 feet of water.  Ice conditions have been reported at 4 to 6 inches on the south end of the reservoir.  Open water conditions exist from mid-reservoir to the dam.  Adam Strainer, FWP, Helena

Hauser:  Rainbows are being caught at the Causeway on jigs or ice flies baited with maggots or worms and fished 6 to 8 feet below the ice.   A few walleye and perch are being caught at the Causeway with the same bait and lure combos, but they are being caught near the bottom.  The ice in the Causeway is 3 to 6 inches and there is open water at Black Sandy, York Bridge and Devilis Elbow. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Holter:  There is a skim of ice at Gates of the Mountains, but the rest of the reservoir is open water.  Anglers are still able to put a boat in at Holter Lake and Log Gulch Ramps.  No open water fishing report.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir:  Kokanee action is good while using jigs and maggots or corn in 30 to 35 feet of water.  Small perch are being caught just off the bottom at varying depths.  There is 6 to 8 inches of ice.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
