Bowhunter Education classes set in Miles City, Forsyth and Sidney

Bowhunter Education classes are now scheduled for Miles City, Forsyth and Sidney.

The Forsyth class is Feb. 21-23, the Miles City class is March 20-23, and the Sidney class is June 11, 19, 20-22. Online registration is open for the Forsyth and Miles City events. Registration for the Sidney class opens online on May 11.

Click on “Education,” then “Hunter Education Programs.” Select “Find a Class or Field Course” and click the green box that says “Register for a Bowhunter Education Course.” Classes in other Region 7 communities will be added at later dates, and interested people are advised to check back occasionally at fwp.mt.gov or like the Facebook page Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks – Region 7 for new listings.

FORSYTH

There are 47 of 50 seats remaining in the Forsyth class, which will meet from 6-9 p.m. at Forsyth High School on Feb. 21 and 22. Class on Feb. 23 runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the high school. The class will be held in the school’s multi-purpose room located at the west end of the gym. On Feb. 23, the class will finish up in the morning and the field course will be in the afternoon, ending no later 4 p.m. Students should dress for the weather and plan accordingly.

The field day is open to adult online students. Online students must register at fwp.mt.gov, under the green tab that says “Register for a Bowhunter Education Field Course.” They must complete the online Bowhunter Education course and test prior to the field day and bring their certificate to the field day.

There is no cost for the classroom course, which is administered by volunteer instructors through Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Class participants must be 11 years of age or older by the class date. Classroom students should register no later than Feb. 14 and make arrangements to pick up a manual by that date. They are expected to read the manual and complete chapter quizzes prior to the start of class. For more information, contact instructor Doug Roberts at 406-351-3472.

MILES CITY

The Miles City class will run from 6-9 p.m. on March 20-23 at Fish, Wildlife & Parks regional headquarters in Miles City. There are 30 seats available, and registration is open online at fwp.mt.gov. This will be the only Bowhunter Ed course/field day in Miles City for 2019.

The field day will be March 23 at Spotted Eagle Recreation Area from 8 a.m.-noon. Adult online students are welcome to participate in the field day, but they must register separately at fwp.mt.gov, complete the course and test online and bring a certificate to the field day. Field day students must dress appropriately for the weather and for hunting situations. Bow shooting experience is optional, and students can bring a bow/arrows if they have them.

After registering, classroom students should pick up manuals at the FWP regional office in Miles City no later than March 13. They are expected to read chapters 1-4 and complete chapter quizzes prior to the start of class. They should bring a pencil to class, arrange for transportation to and from the field day Saturday and bring a lunch that day.

SIDNEY

Online registration for this course opens on May 11 at fwp.mt.gov. Orientation/walk-in registration will be June 11 at the Richland County Extension Office in Sidney from 6-8 p.m. Workbooks will be handed out then, and all chapter quizzes must be done by June 19. Those under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. Students must be 12 by June 11 to register.

The class will meet from 6-9 p.m. on June 19, 20 and 21 at the Extension office. On June 22, class will run from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. and include a field day. Wear proper attire for hunting on field day and hiking-type shoes. ABSOLUTELY NO OPEN-TOED SHOES or SHORTS PERMITTED ON THE COURSE. The field day is not open to adult online students.
