Work on the eventual replacement of the swinging bridge will begin this week. Wesslen Construction, Inc., of Spokane, Washington was awarded the contract for the swinging bridge replacement project. Initial mobilization of the equipment will occur on Thursday, March 28.

The public will be able to utilize the bridge and site until further notice but visitors may experience limited noise, activity and additional vehicles/and or equipment in parking areas.

However, during the course of the replacement project, the existing bridge and area near the bridge will be temporarily closed to ensure public safety.

District Ranger, Kirsten Kaiser stated, “Public safety is paramount as heavy equipment, helicopters and workers will be in the vicinity of the bridge, falls and parking areas for approximately three months.”  “All closures of the site will be coordinated between the Forest Service and Lincoln County and the public will be notified in advance.”

Weekly updates will also be posted on Facebook as well as the Lincoln County webpage at http://www.lincolncountymt.us.

The project is located near the Kootenai River off U.S. Highway 2 between the communities of Troy and Libby, Montana. All activities will occur on Forest Service and Lincoln County lands.

For more information on this project, please contact District Ranger Kirsten Kaiser or the Troy Ranger Station at 406-295-4693.
