The Mallard’s Rest Fishing Access Site and campground along the Yellowstone River is temporarily closed due to seasonal flooding. Water flowing alongside U.S. Highway 89 has caused a steep part of the east highway embankment to collapse into the fishing access site, creating hazardous conditions.

Mallard’s Rest is in Park County, about 12 miles south of Livingston along Highway 89.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is working with the Montana Department of Transportation to evaluate the stability of the slope and other factors that impact public safety. The closure will last until public access is deemed safe, and additional updates will be provided as they become available.

Alternatives exist for boaters wishing to float this section of the Yellowstone River. Boaters who put in at the Grey Owl Fishing Access Site can exit the river at the Pine Creek Fishing Access Site, which is about three miles downriver from Mallard’s Rest.
