Bozeman, MT — Opportunities for water recreation in Montana are abundant and diverse, making the state a premium destination for anglers, boaters and other recreationists.

As temperatures rise and spring runoff continues, wardens with Region 3 of Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a water recreation safety workshop in Bozeman. The free workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at FWP’s Region 3 office, 1400 S. 19th Ave., in Bozeman.

“Safety is always our top message as we talk with boaters and anglers in Montana,” said Matt Wemple, FWP’s Bozeman warden sergeant. “This workshop is a great opportunity to get to know the rules and important safety practices before hitting the water this season. Reducing unnecessary risk makes for a more enjoyable experience on rivers and lakes.”

The workshop will include a demonstration on life jackets and a discussion on how life jacket regulations apply to youth and certain types of watercraft. Wardens will also discuss water rescue techniques and special precautions to take when navigating rivers and lakes in kayaks, canoes, rafts or other watercraft.

The workshop will end with a raffle for a youth life jacket. Participants are asked to preregister for the workshop online at https://bit.ly/2JVcBmL.
