Grizzly Hackle gives the fishing on the Bitterroot a 4/5!

The Bitterroot has dropped into great shape and we don’t think it will rise too much with the warmer weather.  We might have seen the end of our major runoff at this point.  There are Salmonflies on the upper Bitterroot!  If you go up there be careful as the river is till big.  Flies to have are GH Water Walkers, Sofa Pillows, Fluttering Salmonflies, Big R’s.  The Salmonfly Nymphs will work as well like big Rubberlegs, Double Bead Stones, Bitch Creeks, Yuk Bugs and San Juans.  Below Hamilton you’ll be mainly nymphing San Juans, Rubberlegs, PTs, Princes and Copper Johns.  There are a few bugs starting to hatch and if the river stays the way it is we should see Goldens and Green Drakes soon.

The river is big and dangerous, so be careful if you go out.  If you got a new boat and haven’t rowed much, this isn’t the river to try it out on.
