LIBBY, Mont. June 5, 2019 – The U.S. Forest Service has awarded the Clooney Beck Stewardship Contract to JAG Logging Company, located in Eureka, Montana. The Clooney Beck Contract is the 6th contract to be awarded from the East Reservoir Environmental Assessment.

The Clooney Beck Stewardship Project is located in the area of Cripple Horse Creek on the Libby Ranger District. It is one of several timber projects included in the East Reservoir analysis area.

The project includes intermediate and regeneration harvest on 610 acres, tree planting on 34 acres, and slashing and burning on almost 3,000 acres. It also includes noxious weed control on 386 miles of forest roads, watershed improvement work and brushing and blading on 380 miles of National Forest System roads. Gravel crushing and placement on road #334 are also included as projects to be completed if funding allows.

The primary timber harvest method will be commercial thinning and stumpage monies generated by timber harvest will be used to fund forest improvement projects in the analysis area.

The contract work is expected to begin in September of 2019 and take approximately three years to complete.

This type of stewardship contact requires a contractor to offer a bid price for the timber to be harvested, prepare bids for work that the Forest has identified to be performed in the project area as well as submitting a proposal for completing the work. This work can include road maintenance, wildlife habitat improvements, water quality, fuels reduction, etc. The contractor bids are evaluated by a Forest Service panel and the projects are awarded based on best overall value to the government.

If you have any questions, please contact the Libby Ranger District at 406-293-7773.
