ENNIS PIG !!!

On June 21st. a huge Rainbow trout was reported. Many of us are aware of the wonderful Ennis Pond on the east end of town. This Lions Club pond is stocked for kids. Many HUGE trout from the Ennis hatchery have been stocked into this pond. Back in the day, my son Kyle would not keep a trout unless it was at least 30 inches. He rarely left the pond without his limit. The pond was restricted for kids under 13 years of age.

This recent monster trout measured 33 inches and weighed over 20 lbs.! Now that’s a pig! Apparently, it was in a private pond along Jack Creek. The huge trout was known as the Legend of Jack creek. It was routinely seen for the past 7-8 years. Only a few fly anglers have hooked up with the monster.

The Montana state record for a rainbow trout is 38.5 inches caught in 1997. It was no where near the weight of this fish which must have been fed regularly.

A local business called Pond Doctor was called when the great trout was discovered to be floating in the pond. Herons and Eagles were trying to catch the corpse. Their technician, Kyle Jones, netted, measured, and weighed the great floater!

Long live the Jack Creek Legend!
