Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) will host local musicians Buck Buchanan and Mark O’Boyle at Missouri Headwaters State Park on Saturday, July 6 at 7pm.

Join us for an evening of music with Buck Buchanan (acoustic guitar) and Mark O’Boyle (steel guitar). With a heavy country/wester and swing sound, the duo will delight the audience through their original songs.

This concert is part of the Summer Speaker Series. Programs are held on Saturday evenings behind the park office. Bring your own chair and stay to enjoy a marshmallow roast following the performance. For more information, call (406) 285-3610.

Buck Buchanan was raised north of Boise, Idaho, on a small cattle ranch and attributes his love for music to his mother, who helped to organize hootenannies that would last until early morning hours. Buck moved to West Yellowstone, Montana, in 1976, to form a band with former Twang guitarist Jim Lewis. In 1979 he moved to Bozeman to attend Montana State University. Graduating in 1985 with a degree in geology and a teaching certificate. He taught science at Belgrade Middle School in Belgrade, Montana, for 22 years, finally getting out of the eighth grade in 2007. Enjoying their home in nearby Manhattan, his wife Carol shares in his musical interests.
Pedal Steel guitarist Mark O’Boyle recently returned to Montana, permanently. Mark previously played in bands with Buck Buchanan and Mike Gillan in the late 1990’s. The pull of honky-tonk music, renewing old friendships, fly-fishing, and fly tying, prompted a hasty retreat to the town of Manhattan. Mark taught himself the steel guitar, wearing out vinyl records, and playing in the Detroit and Ann Arbor Michigan area. He started playing drums and guitar in his teens and was drawn to the pedal steel after hearing Buddy Cage, Bobby Black, Jerry Garcia, Sneaky Pete and Rusty Young to name a few. He learned and shared with other steel guitar players such as: Carmen Acciaioli, (Michael Martin Murphy) Jerry Hendrix, (Buck Owens) and Robbie Daniels. Somewhere in the mix Mark managed to work for 29 years as a teacher and a counselor in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. He retired 2017.

Event starts 7:00 pm Saturday evening behind the park office. A marshmallow roast follows each program.  Bring your own chairs and take in Buck Buchanan’s amazing local music in your beautiful State Park. Please join us!!!
