I was checking out my apple trees and was impressed. Montana Grant will be up to his ears in apples this fall. Here is a great way to use your apples.

Montana Apple Butter

4 cups of apple juice, or water

30 medium apples

1 cup brown sugar

2 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

½ tsp cloves

Fill a big pot with water. Peel, core, and slice up your apples and toss them into the pot. Use a high heat to boil the mixture. Now reduce to medium heat and cover. Use a potato masher to smash up the apples as they cook for around 25 minutes.

Now use a Food Mill to press the apple mash through. A colander, or medium wire mesh strainer will also do the trick. Now use a stovetop Dutch Oven or ovenproof pot. Preheat the oven to 225 degrees F. Bring the sauce to a simmer on top of the stove and add brown sugar. Now place it into the oven, uncovered. Stir every hour for 5-6 hours. The sauce should reduce by half.

Add your spices and return the pot back into the oven. Now stir every 30 minutes until the sauce is thick, like mashed potatoes. Freeze or can the Apple Butter.

This wonderful product will not last long. It is perfect on bread, toast, English muffins, Bagels, or ice cream.
