Canoeing Yellowstone Lake, a remote waterway (by Brett French)

Yellowstone Lake is annually surrounded by up to 4 million visitors a year, but few will ever dip a paddle into its waters. There are many reasons for that, including that it’s a remote area, known grizzly bear habitat and the lake is cold and can see 4- to 5-foot high waves. For those willing to take the time to paddle a canoe or kayak, however, the lake can provide a great getaway unlike anything else in the area.
