Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is collecting comments for public waters approved for commercial bait seining. A bait seining license is required for persons 15 years of age or older to seine for and transport bait fish for commercial purposes and for any person who seines for and possesses more than 24 dozen non-game bait fish.

The commercial bait seining waters list designates on which waters these activities are allowed. There are two changes proposed in the Central Fishing District, and two reservoirs that are proposed to be removed from the list from the Eastern District. Commercial bait seining from private ponds is only allowed from ponds with a commercial fish pond license issued by FWP.

FWP is accepting comments on the commercial bait seining waters list until Nov. 15. Comments can be submitted via email to fwpfsh@mt.gov or via mail to Bait Seining Waters, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620. To view the proposed list of approved bait seining waters, please visit the FWP website at http://fwp.mt.gov/doingBusiness/insideFwp/commission/meetings/agenda.html?coversheet&topicId=49846052.
